Our Story
Faraz Mohammad is a Los Angeles-based interior designer known for his work on exquisite hospitality projects across the United States. Throughout his career, he has created custom-designed furniture crafted in factories in downtown Los Angeles. Following the pandemic, Faraz traveled to India, where he met artisans mastering centuries-old techniques of handcrafting. Inspired by their artistry, he had a lightbulb moment - to blend these traditional Indian methods with his contemporary design sensibilities. Each piece in his home décor line is thoughtfully designed in his Los Angeles studio and meticulously produced locally, reflecting a seamless fusion of global craftsmanship and modern design.
He envisioned more than a brand. He imagined a living bridge - between past and present, between artisan communities and modern homes, between intention and beauty. With no roadmap and no network, he leaned into what revealed itself naturally: the kindness of strangers. Designers, weavers, dyers, embroiderers, and seamstresses came together, united by trust and shared purpose.
Kind Strangers was born from this collaboration. Our textiles are crafted in India using time - honored techniques, then thoughtfully finished in Los Angeles, where every pillow cover is cut, assembled, and refined in our studio. It is here that contemporary design meets heritage craft - where global hands shape a singular point of view.
Our Mission
We exist to protect what matters.
To preserve traditional artistry—from weaving and natural dyeing to hand embroidery and heritage techniques.
To create ethical luxury—objects that honor their origins while living effortlessly in modern spaces.
To support artisans—through fair wages, safe workspaces, and long-term partnerships built on respect.
Every piece we create carries meaning. It holds the patience of the maker, the rhythm of the process, and the quiet dignity of work done by hand. When you bring Kind Strangers into your home, you become part of a story rooted in resilience, care, and continuity.
Kind Strangers is where heritage meets modernity.
The Making: A Story in Every Thread
Inspired by the belief that the soul of a culture lives in its villages, we honor the full journey behind each piece.
Nothing here is rushed. Our textiles take months to come to life - through sketching, hand-dyeing, block printing, weaving, and stitching across artisan communities in India. From there, materials travel to Los Angeles, where each pillow cover is completed with precision and intention. The result is a product shaped by many hands, across borders, united by shared values.
What you receive is not just a finished object, but a story - one shaped by time, care, and collaboration.
The Artisans
Our artisans are not our suppliers. They are our partners, our teachers, our family.
Living away from the noise of cities, they carry generations of knowledge and cultural expression in their hands. Whether it’s a weaver in Bhuj or a seamstress in Los Angeles, every creation reflects their skill, patience, and pride.
We uphold fair trade principles by allowing artisans to set their own pace and wages. We believe in relationships, not transactions—investing directly in people, preserving heritage, and supporting livelihoods that strengthen entire communities.
When you choose Kind Strangers, you choose to stand with them.
And together, we keep something beautiful alive.
