Our Story
Kind Strangers began with a simple belief: that craft deserves a future.
In 2021, in the quiet aftermath of a world slowed down, Los Angeles–based interior designer Faraz Mohammad traveled through India. What he encountered stayed with him. Along winding streets and inside generations-old workshops, artisans were closing their doors. Skills passed down through centuries were being abandoned, not by choice, but by necessity. Families were leaving their villages, traditions fading one workshop at a time.
What began as an observation became a calling.
Faraz envisioned more than a brand. He imagined a living bridge—between past and present, between artisans and modern homes, between intention and beauty. With no roadmap and no network, he relied on what revealed itself naturally: the kindness of strangers. Designers, weavers, dyers, embroiderers, and seamstresses came together, united by trust and shared purpose.
From a design studio in Los Angeles to artisan communities across India, Kind Strangers was born—a collaboration that crosses borders while honoring roots. Contemporary design shaped by time-honored craft. Thoughtful living grounded in heritage.
Our Mission
We exist to protect what matters. To preserve traditional artistry— from weaving and natural dyeing to hand embroidery and heritage techniques. To create ethical luxury—objects that respect their origins while belonging effortlessly in modern homes. To support artisans—through fair wages, safe workspaces, and long-term partnerships built on respect.
Every piece we create carries meaning. It holds the patience of the maker, the rhythm of the process, and the quiet dignity of work done by hand. When you bring Kind Strangers into your home, you become part of this story—one of resilience, care, and continuity.Kind Strangers is where heritage meets modernity.
The Making: A Story in Every Thread
Inspired by the belief that the soul of a culture lives in its villages, we honor the journey behind each piece. Nothing here is rushed. Our textiles take months to come to life—through sketching, hand-dyeing, block printing, weaving, stitching, and finishing. Each step passes through skilled hands, across villages and borders, before arriving in your home. What you receive is not just a product, but a story shaped by time and intention.
The name Kind Strangers reflects this philosophy—people connected not by geography, but by kindness, artistry, and shared values. We celebrate the quiet beauty of imperfection, the depth of handmade work, and a slower, more considered way of living.
The Artisans – The Heart of Everything
Our artisans are not our suppliers. They are our partners, our teachers, our family. Living away from the noise of cities, they carry generations of knowledge and cultural expression in their hands. Whether it’s a weaver in Bhuj or a natural dyer elsewhere, every creation reflects their skill, patience, and pride.
We uphold fair trade principles by letting artisans set their own pace and wages. We believe in relationships, not transactions—investing directly in people, preserving heritage, and supporting livelihoods that strengthen entire communities.
When you choose Kind Strangers, you choose to stand with them. And together, we keep something beautiful alive.
